What can be measured
Column shafts may swell subtly, horizontal lines may curve and corner spacing may differ from central bays. Measured surveys can record these departures from a simple grid.

What remains interpretive
Scholars debate how refinements relate to perception, construction practice and structural coordination. Saying that every adjustment was designed to correct one specific illusion overstates the evidence.

A better caption
We name the measured feature, cite the survey and describe competing interpretations. That keeps a compelling design story from becoming a false certainty.
