Symmetry and the architectural axis
Bilateral symmetry organises many temple fronts around a central line through steps, doorway and roof. Repetition creates a stable visual field in which variation becomes noticeable.
Symmetry need not mean every part is identical. The Erechtheion demonstrates how a complex programme and uneven rock can produce an intentionally irregular whole.
Axis
A line organising paired parts or a sequence of spaces.
Bay
The interval between supports, useful for reading rhythm.
Rectangle
A practical frame for rooms, platforms and elevations.
Circle
A construction and analysis tool, not automatic proof of symbolism.

Modular proportion
A module is a repeated unit used to coordinate dimensions. Column diameters, intercolumniation or blocks may serve as working references, but the applicable unit must be demonstrated in the specific survey.
Ratios found after the fact can be sensitive to where a photograph is cropped or which weathered edge is measured. We publish the source drawing and tolerance when making a proportional claim.

Perspective and optical refinement
Entasis, slight curvature and adjusted corner spacing are measurable features in some buildings. Their existence does not prove that one optical explanation accounts for every refinement.
Perspective compresses intervals and changes apparent verticals. Analytical overlays should therefore use rectified photographs or measured elevations, not an uncorrected tourist view.
