Begin with vulnerability
A conservation plan considers material, existing cracks, exposure, drainage, windborne debris, visitor safety and the significance of the fabric. The risk profile changes from site to site.

Protection must fit the building
Lightning-protection systems require qualified design, compatible fixings, inspection and maintenance. Historic significance and archaeological deposits constrain where components can be placed.

Document before and after
Condition surveys, dated photographs and maintenance records help teams distinguish sudden storm damage from slower deterioration. Emergency response is stronger when those records already exist.
