Symmetry and Proportion in Classical Architecture

Symmetry is observable
An axis can organise paired columns, steps, doorways and roof slopes. Repetition allows builders and viewers to compare parts, making small adjustments perceptible.

A module is a working unit
Designers can use a recurring dimension—often linked to a column or bay—to coordinate parts. The presence of modular relationships does not prove that one universal ratio controlled every building.

Claims need measurements
Photographic overlays can be distorted by perspective, cropping and restoration. A geometric claim is strongest when it cites a measured survey, explains its tolerance and distinguishes design from later condition.
